Stop this. Selfies aren’t empowering; they’re a high tech reflection of the fucked up way society teaches women that their most important quality is their physical attractiveness. [link]http://img.gawkerassets.com/img/196xp1wc09eqejpg/ku-xlarge.jpg[/link] Quote:But I think Wallop’s got it backwards. Selfies don’t cause self esteem to drop; they’re a reflection of the warped way we teach girls to see themselves as decorative. The post-approval-post cycle continues as people become accustomed to immediate e-validation. Which came first: the selfie or feeling like shit because someone said something mean about your face on the internet?
Selfies aren’t empowering little sources of pride, nor are they narcissistic exercises by silly, conceited bitches. They’re a logical technically enabled response to being brought up to think that what really matters is if other people think you’re pretty.

22 extremely important selfies that irrevocably changed our world for the better (and worse) in 2013. Quote:The selfie captured the pickpocket’s face in all its dead-eyed monotony. Aspiring criminals saw this pic and concluded that if that’s the face of crime, perhaps being a criminal won’t provide the joy and happiness they seek from life. This selfie made a lot of people choose a life on the straight and narrow.
