Вчера по тв показывали, как некая мамаша нажаловалась в школу на оскорбительное употребление слова "жирный" в школьной программе. ТВ посвятило этому минут пять времени.
TACOMA, WA (KCPQ/FOX) – A woman said she ordered her daughter not to do her homework for the first time because of material she found offensive.
Saylor Smith, 5, came home from school with an assignment that teaches student to match adjectives with objects.
One of the word-picture associations showed an overweight person next to the word "fat."
"My mouth dropped; I was blown away," Whitney Smith said. "I couldn't believe that they would want my kids to pick out the difference between a bigger person compared to a smaller person."
Smith went to the school and expressed her concern to a receptionist.
"She told me it was a descriptive word," Smith said. "She goes, ‘I think you are taking it the wrong way. The person that made the workbook probably didn't mean it in that manner.'"
She is concerned something this simple could have damaging effects on young children.
Smith believes it could potentially lead to bigger problems like bullying and eating disorders.
"I never want her to come home and say, ‘Mom, that kid said I was fat today," Smith said.
